Deadline: 7 December 2026
The Paddle Trust, formerly known as the Canoe Foundation, provides grants of £500 to £10,000 to improve public access to waterways and protect the natural environment. Exceptional projects seeking more than £10,000 may also be considered. Funding is available across the UK, including Wales.
Priority themes
The Trust supports projects that improve access to rivers, lakes, canals and coastlines for paddlesports, particularly those benefiting the wider community and people with disabilities.
Eligible projects include:
- Installing or improving launch and landing platforms, ramps and steps.
- Creating accessible pathways and routes to the water’s edge.
- Providing designated parking for water users.
- Protecting riverbanks and coastlines from erosion.
- Installing signage promoting safe and responsible use of waterways.
- Developing sustainable access facilities benefiting multiple user groups.
Exclusions and eligibility
Applications are welcomed from paddling clubs, community groups, parish and town councils, local authorities and other organisations working to improve public access to water.
Funding is not available for coaching, training, staff costs, purchasing or hiring paddlesports equipment, clubhouses, equipment storage or facilities restricted to private members.
Deadlines
The current funding round closes on 7 December 2026.
Application process
Applications are submitted online through the Paddle Trust website. Projects should be ready to proceed, with quotations obtained, planning requirements addressed and evidence of local support.
Tips for applicants
The Trust particularly values projects that benefit several user groups, improve accessibility and protect the natural environment. Applicants should demonstrate how their improvements will provide lasting benefits to the wider community.
Applications are competitive, and evidence of match funding or contributions from local organisations will strengthen proposals.
