National Grid Electricity Distribution, working in partnership with Localgiving, has launched a £500,000 funding programme to help communities tackle fuel poverty and improve energy affordability this winter. Funding is available across the Midlands, South West England and South Wales.
The programme will support practical projects helping people stay warm, reduce household energy bills and improve energy efficiency. Eligible activities include distributing warm packs, blankets, insulated curtains and draught excluders; visiting isolated households to provide energy-saving advice; operating community warm spaces; improving the energy efficiency of community buildings used as warm spaces; and providing advice on energy tariffs, Winter Fuel Payments and other fuel poverty support.
Priority will be given to organisations supporting economically disadvantaged communities and historically under-represented or marginalised groups. Projects demonstrating lasting reductions in household energy costs are particularly encouraged.
Eligibility and grant amounts: Registered charities and non-profit companies limited by guarantee can apply for up to £5,000. Constituted charitable organisations without a charity number can apply for up to £2,000. Organisations must be based within National Grid Electricity Distribution’s operating regions.
The criteria specifically refer to non-profit companies limited by guarantee. CICs with this structure should check their eligibility against the detailed guidance. Eligibility for CICs limited by shares is not explicitly confirmed.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 16 October 2026. Applicants will be informed of decisions by mid-November, with successful grants distributed before December. Projects must be completed and funding spent by 31 March 2027.
