Creative Debuts supports emerging and underrepresented artists and aims to make the creative sector more accessible. Its Black Artists Grant (BAG) provides direct, no-strings-attached financial support to Black artists in the UK.
The grant is specifically for artists with Black heritage who identify as Black. It is open to all creative disciplines, including painters, musicians, filmmakers, directors, jewellers, sculptors, designers and choreographers.
There are no restrictions on how the money is spent. Artists can use it to create new work, buy equipment or materials, travel, undertake research, attend exhibitions or conferences, or even help with everyday living costs.
This is for individual UK-based Black artists, rather than charities or CICs. There is no age limit. Applicants should only apply once, but their application remains eligible for consideration in future months.
Grant amount
One artist receives £500 each month.
Deadlines
There is no deadline – this is a rolling monthly grant.
Application process
Applications are made directly to Creative Debuts. There is no requirement to report on how the grant is spent or deliver specified outcomes.
Any specific tips to apply
This is deliberately a simple and flexible grant, so applicants should focus on introducing themselves, their creative practice and what makes their work distinctive. There is no need to invent a formal project simply to secure the funding.
