About the funder
The AD Charitable Trust supports smaller UK charities working with disadvantaged people. The Trust aims to help people build confidence, self-esteem and independence, often providing practical support alongside grant funding.

Priority themes they want to fund
The Trust funds projects that help disadvantaged people reach their potential through self-help and personal development. It supports both capital projects and revenue costs, including core costs where appropriate, and particularly welcomes applications from smaller charities.

Exclusions and if they fund CICs
Applications must come from registered charities (or projects operating under the auspices of one). The Trust does not generally support projects involving medical care, hospices, medical equipment, religion, sport, large building projects, animal welfare, arts or music (unless used therapeutically), or work outside the UK. CICs are not normally eligible unless applying through a registered charity.

Grant amounts
Grants are typically £5,000–£30,000.

Deadlines
Applications can be submitted throughout the year. Funding decisions are usually made in December, when grants are awarded. Applicants should allow at least three months for a decision.

Application process
Applications begin with a simple email or letter outlining the project, costs, expected outcomes, evaluation methods, current funding, and recent accounts. The Trustees may arrange a site visit before making a final decision.

Any specific tips to apply
The Trust favours smaller charities where its funding can make a meaningful difference. Clearly explain how your project will build confidence, independence and long-term outcomes for disadvantaged people, and include a realistic budget and evaluation plan.
