  1. Dear Ms Shoffman

From reading the criteria listed in Funding Eye, our arts organisation appears to be eligible to apply for grant support from The Kennedy Leigh Charitable Trust. This email is seeking confirmation that our Strategic Aims and plans to provide an area wide Covid Recovery arts event in September 2021 to encourage advancement of the arts meets with the aims of your trust.

North Somerset Arts (NSA) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation run by a Board of Trustees, that encourages the participation in and enjoyment of creative and performing arts in North Somerset. It is a non-profit making arts organisation, the only such organisation representing the arts across the whole of the unitary authority.

In alternating years NSA runs an area wide Arts Week consisting of Open Studios, demonstrations, ‘have a go’ arts-based workshops and displays free to access by the public, which attracts about 25,000 visitors to around forty venues. Arts Week is funded primarily from NSA membership fee income.

Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic our members have faced real struggles to earn any income this year. In order to support them, protect them from the spread of infection and safeguard the public as much as possible, the Trustees of NSA are planning to run a Covid Recovery version of Arts Week in September 2021 (government rules permitting) by reducing the number of venues and by hiring, fitting out, equipping and cleaning daily, Covid-secure venues for our members to showcase their work.

This is an additional financial burden which we do not want to levy on our members, so as part of our fund-raising efforts we will generate income from other sources such as grants, sponsorship and selling advertising space in our Arts Week brochure.

    ABOUT NORTH SOMERSET ARTS
The strategic aims of the organisation are :
PARTNER: Increase engagement with other organisations, including arts, education, health and wellbeing, voluntary, third sector and local businesses to educate and demonstrate the benefits of how the Arts can support communities and the region as a whole.

ENABLE: Provide services and opportunities that enable the participation of people of all ages and backgrounds in arts-based activities. Exploring what the barriers are that prevent some communities in North Somerset from accessing the Arts and addressing these barriers.

ENGAGE: Through outreach work, to engage with and educate people of all ages and backgrounds about using the Arts for cultural reflection and promotion of North Somerset communities, with a particular emphasis on reaching those affected by issues of rural isolation.

ADVOCACY: Provide a voice for the advancement of the Arts in North Somerset.

HUB: Become an umbrella organisation for the arts in North Somerset, a ‘go to’ resource for those wanting to find out more about the arts in North Somerset, providing advice and information on resources on developing the arts in North Somerset.

SUSTAINABILITY: Become a stronger, more cohesive, organisation.

Please could you let me know if you believe an application from North Somerset Arts to support our members through the Arts Week event would be acceptable to your Board and would be successful? Do you prefer a letter or do you require completion of online form to apply for a grant?
