Charles Plater Trust

The Charles Plater Trust offers grants to support projects rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, aiming to promote social justice through education across England and Wales.

Who Can Apply?

  • Registered charities in England or Wales.

  • Annual income under £10 million.

  • Universities and HE institutions can apply only in partnership with eligible charities.

Grant Types:

  • Small Grants (£1,000–£5,000):

    • For charities with income below £100,000.

    • Projects typically at parish or local levels.

    • Must be completed within one year.

    • Application takes approximately one hour.

  • Large Grants (£5,001–£60,000):

    • For charities with income between £10,000 and £10 million.

    • Projects to be completed within two years.

    • Application takes up to 90 minutes.

Funding Priorities:

  1. Leadership for Lay People: Deepening awareness of Catholic Social Teaching to equip individuals for leadership roles addressing social issues.

  2. Educational Social Action: Projects with an educational dimension delivering tangible outcomes for marginalized communities.

  3. Applied Research: Research projects applying Catholic Social Teaching to improve public policy and practice.

Key Dates:

  • Large Grants Round Opens: 16th January 2025

  • Application Deadline: 5pm, 27th February 2025

  • Outcome Notification: By 9th June 2025

  • Awards Ceremony: 24th June 2025 in Cardiff

Application Process:

  • Applications must be completed online in one sitting.

  • Prepare responses in advance using the provided templates.

  • Required documents:

    • Latest annual accounts

    • Specific project budget

    • Safeguarding policy

    • External reference

Note: Successful applicants must wait two years from the last funding receipt before reapplying.
