W.G. Edwards Charitable Foundation

The W.G. Edwards Charitable Foundation is a UK‑based grant‑making charity that focuses on improving the lives of older people (aged 65+) by supporting registered charities to deliver capital or innovative community projects.

Priority themes they want to fund
They fund capital projects such as refurbishment, equipment or furniture for older people’s services, plus innovative community programmes for over‑65s (e.g., fitness or gardening clubs, technology for older people).

Exclusions & if they fund CICs
Eligible applicants are UK‑registered charities. They do not fund salaries, general running costs, transport, building projects that are only in the planning stage, or IT for staff/volunteers. CICs are not explicitly listed as eligible.

Deadlines
The Foundation holds meetings quarterly in January, April, July and October. One noted application window is 8–12 December 2025 for the January meeting.

Application process
Applications must be submitted (typically by email) and be no more than four A4 pages including a budget. Applicants should clearly describe the project, costs and how it benefits older people.

Any specific tips to apply

  • Ensure at least 90% of beneficiaries are aged 65+ (or around 80% if mixed).

  • Prioritise capital or tangible items/projects (not just activities) and avoid asking for items that are retrospective, or for building projects in early planning.

  • Keep your grant request modest – most grants have been in the region of £1,000‑£5,000, with many averaging around £1,500
