The Cayo Foundation

The Cayo Foundation is a discretionary grant-making charity that supports other registered charities across England and Wales. It does not typically run its own programmes but makes awards to organisations working in areas decided by the Trustees.

The Foundation has a flexible funding approach and in the past has supported charities working in medical research and training, crime prevention, children and young people, education, the arts and cultural activities, and military history. Grants are not tied to a single theme but reflect the interests of the Trustees and the charitable needs they wish to support.

Eligibility
The fund supports registered charities operating in England and Wales. Applications must be made in writing to the Foundation, outlining the purpose for which funding is sought.

Grants vary in size. While awards have been made up to approximately £125,000 in the past, most grants tend to fall in the £1,000–£25,000 range. Funding can be used for a wide range of charitable projects and activities depending on Trustee decisions.

Application process & deadlines
There is no fixed deadline; applications can be submitted at any time in writing. The Trustees meet quarterly (or more often if needed) to review applications.

Any specific tips to apply
Strong applications clearly articulate the purpose and community benefit of the project, link to past Trustee interests (e.g., education, health, arts), and show evidence of need and planned outcomes. Being concise and addressing how funds will be used helps in the discretionary review process.
