There is no right way to write a funding strategy each one needs to be personal to the organisation. However you want the strategy to be a practical document and not one that takes too much time to produce. It should be able to sit along side your business / strategic plan to show how the resources will be found to deliver the work you want to do.
Under ‘resources’ there is a downloadable example funding strategy. It gives a basis on which other organisations can develop their own strategy. The strategy is bases on a small organisation that wants to increase its range of funding and develop its core funding.
Whatever format the strategy takes the important thing is that it meets your organisations needs. The strategy should:
- Identify how your organisation will fund its future activities,
- Identify what new funding opportunities you are going to develop,
- Give a timescale and responsibilities for your fundraising,
- Give alternative sources of funding in case one fails,
- Develop other areas of the organisation that effect fundraising including publicity and finance
